Moving from voice actor to agent showed him how personally he could take a difficult negotiation or a producer challenging contract terms. He cares deeply about his business and his talent, and that investment can stir up some strong feelings. His lesson was learning to stay calm and keep his ego from taking over the conversation. That’s useful advice on our side of the mic, too. A revision request can feel like a judgment of your performance. A budget objection can feel like someone devaluing your worth. But you don’t have to let that initial emotional reaction write the email. Give yourself a minute, ask a better question, and decide what response will actually help the situation. You can stand up for your value and still be someone people like working with.
